El Descanso en Madera
El Descanso en Madera
Wooden Sculpture, 2024
Dimensions:
In this remarkable wooden version of "El Descanso," CHOCO transforms his collagraph technique into a three-dimensional assemblage, creating a sculptural work that merges his printmaking and sculptural practices. The piece is uniquely constructed from actual collagraph prints that have been mounted onto wooden segments, which are then assembled to create a cubist-inspired female figure. The face is particularly striking, divided into geometric sections that alternate between warm oranges and cool greens, with characteristic features including penetrating eyes and bold red lips that echo the artist's signature style.
The surface of each segment maintains the rich textural quality of CHOCO's collagraph prints, with intricate patterns and varied depths that catch light and create shadow. The overall composition is a symphony of colors - reds, oranges, greens, and golds - each section bearing its own distinct collagraphic pattern and texture. This innovative approach of using actual collagraph prints as the "skin" of the sculpture creates a fascinating dialogue between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms, demonstrating CHOCO's ability to push the boundaries of both printmaking and sculpture. The black circular forms at the bottom anchor the composition while adding a rhythmic element to the piece's geometric organization.
