Collection: Liliana Cortina Rosabal

Liliana Cortina Rosabal first started her career studying Human Rights at the University of Habana before starting studies for painting at the San Alejandro Academy of Arts. Her work aims to show freedom, sensuality, and allure within her treatment of the female figure. Being a member of the LGBTQ and having a same sex partner since before legal marriage was even allowed in Cuba, her paintings reveal an implicit feminist manifesto within her highly polished and emotional works. In her creation of the works there is a clear distinction between the artistic self and the social self as she uses her art to discover her true self brush stroke by brush stroke. Secrecy and magic are both central motifs, reflecting the shared experience of coming out that every LGBTQ member must face.
